Cardiff University Centre for Student Life

Brief overview of the Project

The Centre for Student Life is a service-led project delivered in partnership with the Students’ Union and is part of the biggest campus upgrade in a generation. The Centre features a 550 seat lecture theatre, drop-in and support services, and careers & counselling services. Additionally, various catering offers are available, including A3 casual dining units to the Ground and First Floor of approximately 2,300 sq.ft each.

The Centre for Student Life has been designed with sustainability in mind. It focuses on reducing energy consumption, supplying energy efficiently, and using renewable technology to keep the building’s carbon footprint to a minimum. Some of the design features include photovoltaic cells, the use of natural ventilation, a green roof, and energy efficient lighting.

The building has been assessed under Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) and achieved a BREEAM Excellent score.

The new building is home to the University’s Student Life services including support with study, health and wellbeing, preparing for the future, managing money, and living in Cardiff. It also increases links with the Students’ Union and enhances the services already provided there.
